Avery Johnson

He hasn't been doing that well. We'll know more [today]. Hopefully it's just a strained hip. If that's it, it's good news.More Avery Johnson [10/04/2011 01:10:14]
always thought of him as a triple-double guy.More Avery Johnson [10/04/2011 01:10:20]
We didn't want him to play 40, but he felt pretty good and he looked OK.More Avery Johnson [10/04/2011 01:10:30]
He's not underrated in our book. He does a lot for us. And when you do things on a more consistent basis, you tend to catch people's attention.More Avery Johnson [10/04/2011 01:10:36]
It was not a flawless game ... but I thought we were a little bit more aggressive and our aggression paid off.More Avery Johnson [10/04/2011 01:10:20]
We're not going to win a championship because some guy comes in and plays like Michael Jordan, ... We're going to win as a team. We're going to win when Dirk Nowitzki continues to move forward and Josh Howard and Erick Dampier and Jason Terry give the consistency I'm looking for.More Avery Johnson [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
They were the aggressors in the first half. We really didn't get off the bus. We've got some lethargic situations here that I've got to address. It's really disappointing. Just got to crack the whip a little bit.More Avery Johnson [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
Fifteen offensive rebounds...when did a Dallas team last do that. We put a lot of emphasis on that this year.More Avery Johnson [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
We were not very good for the first three-and-a-half quarters, but between the fourth quarter and overtime we outscored them, 41-22. There's something unique about this team.More Avery Johnson [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
We kind of threw the first punch and kept on punching. We were fortunate enough to put together one of our better games of the (season).More Avery Johnson [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
Hopefully the next game. I'm hoping that if this were a playoff game, he'd be playing.More Avery Johnson [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
What a great young player. You turn over No. 6, and there's Tony's No. 9. But he's better, he's quicker, and just a terrific player. He and Timmy (Duncan) just make a great one-two punch. He plays the game the right way. He sticks to what he does very well, and I'm looking forward to coaching him on All-Star weekend.More Avery Johnson [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
We're on the radar now. There is no hiding.More Avery Johnson [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
Our team is not playing enough of a 48-minute game and that's the disappointing thing. We know it's tough to win road games. This was a hot team team we were playing, give them credit. But you can't play 18-20 minutes of a second half and expect to beat any NBA team.More Avery Johnson [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
For Josh, it'll be a test for him coming back for the first game, especially against a really good defensive team.More Avery Johnson [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
I just refuse to listen to any more lies. You hear them from FEMA, you hear them from Red Cross and I just didn't want to hear it from him.More Avery Johnson [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
Dear Humanity; we regret being alien bastards. We regret coming to Earth. And we most definitely regret that the Corps just blew up our raggedy-ass fleet!More Avery Johnson [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
That MAC gun can put a round clean through a Covenant Capital Ship.More Avery Johnson [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
Being born is easy. So is taking your last breath. Everything in between, that's the hard part. Life is in between, and it will offer challenges and opportunities beyond measure.More Avery Johnson [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
Growing up in New Orleans, my mom and dad were churchgoers. I would go to church with them. Also, I was going to a Catholic school so I had a fascination with the Catholic Church mainly because, in my mind, (their services) didn't take as long. I was bouncing in between my mom's Baptist church, which was called Second Zion Baptist, and going to a Catholic Church.More Avery Johnson [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
In 1989 at Greater Saint Steven Full Gospel Church, I gave my life to Christ. That's pretty much where it all started for me. I was 23 years old at the time, right after my first year in the NBA. The pastor preached a message about being fully committed. That pretty much was me. I wasn't fully committed. I was kind of in and out all of the time. So I just wanted to make a commitment.More Avery Johnson [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
I've always been a man of commitment whether it was academically or professionally. But spiritually I wasn't committed. I was talking the talk and I just wanted to make that commitment. It also made the commitment in other areas of my life stronger.More Avery Johnson [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
I thought I would make it (to the NBA). I believed that I would make it. But I had a Plan B. I was going to get my Master's degree at Tulane University had it not worked out. I think the pressure of making it wasn't on me as great as some other players that had no other options. I was going to do something special in life and I wanted to play in the NBA. I had a backup plan but I went full speed ahead with my Plan A.More Avery Johnson [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
I was really fortunate. I don't believe in luck so I was really fortunate. God really blessed me in terms of my health. I was really healthy. But I tried to do my part in terms of preparation, in terms of perseverance, to make sure that I was always ready to play and try to stay ahead of the game, to beat people with my mind. I wasn't the biggest or the one that jumped the highest, but I had a real high basketball IQ and I knew it. I was a student of game and tried to prepare and be professional and have a good attitudMore Avery Johnson [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
I'm passionate about coaching and being able to mentor young men in a lot of different ways. I think it's good to be able to do what you love to do. It's been in me since the beginning. I was telling my college coach what to do and he trusted me. When I got into the NBA, I started having conversations with coaches. (Coach Gregg) Popp(avich) brought a lot out in me. Coach (Don) Nelson gave me an incredible opportunity to spend some time with him and he molded me but at the same time allowed me to be myself.More Avery Johnson [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
