If you are successful at it, it feels really good but it never really penetrates completely. There are moments where I think that we made an amazing record and I'm so proud of it, but I don't wake up and go, 'Wow, I'm amazing.' " Gwen Stefani Formerly cleaning floors at a Dairy Queen and working at a department store, Gwen Stefani joined brother Eric and his friend John Spence in establishing a band named No Doubt in 1986. Eric was the band's keyboardist but later decided to leave the band in order to try his talent in animation on The Simpsons. After the band's original front man, John Spence, committed suicide in December 1987, Gwen subsequently became the leader of the band. With other members (Tony Kanal on bass, Tom Dumont on guitar and Adrian Young on drums), Gwen survived by performing at local parties and small clubs for several years. With the assistance of Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist Flea, No Doubt taped a demo in 1990 and scored a contract with Interscope Records. With the recording company in 1992, No Doubt launched their self-titled debut album, which was unfortunately a flop. They followed it up with a second album, "Beacon Street Collection (1995)," and received average success.  1995 was No Doubt's breakout year. In that year the band released its third album, "Tragic Kingdom," which spawned the hit singles "Just A Girl," "Spiderwebs," "Don't Speak" and "A Simple Kind of Life." The album sold 15 million copies and topped the Billboard charts in late 1996. It also received two Grammy award nominations that year and instantly launched Gwen and her band's name toward superstardom status. Following the runaway success of "Tragic Kingdom," Gwen and her band released the fourth album, "Return of Saturn" in 2000. The album launched such hit songs as "Ex-Girlfriend" and "Simple Kind Of Life." The next album arrived in 2001 when Gwen and her band released "Rock Steady." The album earned critical acclaim and eventually nabbed two Grammy Awards for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal, for the singles "Hey Baby" and "Underneath It All." The band then released a greatest hits compilation in 2003, titled "The Singles 1992-2003." Gwen initiated her solo efforts in 2001, with such collaborations as working with techno artist Moby in the "Southside" remix and with rapper Eve in "Let Me Blow Ya Mind." On November 23, 2004, Gwen launched her debut album, "Love, Angel, Music, Baby." The first single, "What You Waiting For?" debuted at No. 1 in Australia, No. 11 in Canada and No. 4 in the UK, but only at No. 47 in the US. The single eventually landed Gold and brought Gwen a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Performance. The album's second single, "Rich Girl" (featuring Eve), landed at No. 7 in the US, No. 4 in both the UK and Canada as well as poled at No. 2 in Australia. The single was produced by Dr. Dre and eventually received platinum certification. It was also featured on a Pepsi commercial premiering on Super Bowl Sunday 2005. "Hollaback Girl" (2005), the album's next single, peaked the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 1 and went to No. 17 in Canada. "Love, Angel, Music, Baby" directly hit the music stores and sold more copies than any other No Doubt albums during its first week of release. It poled at No. 7 and netted platinum within four weeks on the market and recently has landed three platinum certifications. Harajuku Girls, Gwen's fans from Japan, appeared in her music videos. As a businesswoman, Gwen, who plans to design for the rest of her life, has branched out her career to include fashion. She has launched her own clothing line, L.A.M.B. (stands for Love, Angel, Music, Baby), which displays Gwen's fashion style. She is also reported to be launching a new footwear line this fall (2005). Many high profile celebrities have worn her collections, including Paris Hilton, Pamela Anderson, Carmen Electra, Nicole Richie, Jenny McCarthy, Alicia Keys and Halle Berry. She also has fans that love to imitate her dressing style, called "Gwenabees." On the "Gwenabees," Gwen said, "And they did it! It was cute. We were like awww a little pink family." Gwen has also splashed across the wide screen. She recently costarred as Jean Harlow, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Cate Blanchett in Martin Scorsese's Oscar nominating film, The Aviator (2004). Commenting on her role in the film, Gwen said, "I'd like to stress that I only have a small role. Oh, who am I kidding? There are no small roles in a Scorsese film." A fan of bands like 311, Blur, Radiohead and Jamiroquai, Gwen has provided her voice to Malice, PS2 and Xbox video games. "My songs are basically my diaries. Some of my best songwriting has come out of time when I've been going through a personal nightmare." I had done the No Doubt record Push and Shove, and that was a real challenge for me: I think after the giving birth twice, going on multiple tours, all the stuff that I had done, I really got quite burned out after that.More Gwen Stefani quotes [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
I clearly remember writing songs [when I was young] and the power that it gave me of feeling like somebody. My whole life changed when I wrote those songs, even before anyone ever heard them. It wasn't a commercial thing.More Gwen Stefani quotes [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
This last year I kind of stopped working out. I think my body just needed a break. And so I did that, and focused more on feeling good as opposed to beating myself up.More Gwen Stefani quotes [03/29/2018 05:03:36]
“Don't shave, don't shower, don't care. Be really stinky and wear the same clothes every day. I think what makes a man sexy is not being self-aware. That's what's really cute to me.”More Gwen Stefani quotes [08/17/2006 12:08:00]
