Michael Douglas

Michael Douglas

Executive producer of 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' (1975)
Background: Oscar-winning actor and producer Michael Douglas, son of actor Kirk Douglas, is known for his power in films as an actor (Fatal Attraction, Wall Street) along with his power as a producer (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Romancing the Stone). He, along with his wife Catherine Zeta Jones, are considered one of the most powerful couples in Hollywood and Michael's resume points to why. With an outstanding debut as a producer for 1975's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, starring Jack Nicholson, to his powerful performance in 1987's Wall Street, starring Charlie Sheen, Douglas gives what we hope he will deliver...good films. Besides films, Douglas's romantic life is publicly observed. With often womanizer characters thrown his way it was not surprising the public drew conclusions despite such characters as President Andrew Shepherd in The American President and Charles Remington in The Ghost and the Darkness. Before his marriage in 2000 to Catherine, Michael was seen with such stars on his arm as actress Brenda Vaccaro, newscaster Elizabeth Vargas, newspaper columnist Maureen Dowd, and was once married to actress Diandra Douglas. Recognized as an attractive and generous man, Michael has made donations to several charities and built the Michael Douglas Foundation, a non-profit organization, which is dedicated to improving the quality of life throughout the world. In 1998, Douglas was chosen as United Nations' Messenger of Peace. "I'm not a big filmophile. I don't watch movies a lot for a hobby. I spend all my time watching sporting events, because, opposed to movies, you can never tell how they're going to end." Michael DouglasStar LegacyChildhood and Family: Born on September 25, 1944 in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Michael Kirk Douglas, later known as Michael Douglas, comes from a family familiar with the film industry. He is the son of famous star Kirk Douglas and former actress Diana Dill, although after the couple's divorce, Michael lived with his mother. Michael Douglas has three brothers, Joel Douglas (producer) and two step brothers, actor Eric Douglas (died on July 6, 2004) and producer Peter Douglas. Michael tried to develop his interests by enrolling in the University of California where he earned a B.A. in Drama in 1968 and studied in New York's Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's National Playwright's Conference, Neighborhood Playhouse and American Place Theater. In 1977, Douglas married Diandra Luker and had one son named Cameron Morrell Douglas. However, the couple divorced with Diandra claiming that Douglas was a womanizer. After meeting beautiful actress Catherine Zeta Jones (who is 25 years younger than Michael) at the Deauville Film Festival in France in the summer of 1998, the couple became engaged and later married on November 18, 2000. Catherine and Michael have two kids, Dylan Michael Douglas and daughter Carys Zeta Douglas.Wonder BoyCareer: Michael Douglas is an actor, producer and director. He began his Hollywood career as an assistant director in a few 1960 films and cameo appearances in Cast a Giant Shadow (1966) and Hail, Hero! (1969). He gained notoriety after being cast in the 1970's TV series The Streets of San Francisco, co-starring Karl Malden. In 1975, Douglas became the executive producer for Milos Forman's blockbuster One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (starring Jack Nicholson) and later co-produced and starred in the successful The China Syndrome (1979), also starring Jane Fonda and Jack Lemmon. He achieved success with Romancing the Stone (1984), its sequel The Jewel of the Nile (1985), and The War of the Roses (1989) in which he co-starred Danny DeVito and Kathleen Turner. He gained greater success in his career when he was cast as Gordon Gecko in Oliver Stone's drama Wall Street (1987). It was in the 90s that Douglas earned his most eminent roles with starring in Basic Instinct (1992), Fatal Attraction (1987), and Disclosure (1994) opposite Demi Moore. He continued to act in 2000 with movies like the hit Traffic (2000), Wonder Boys (2000), and Don't Say a Word (2001).
