Renny Harlin has established himself as one of the industry's most renowned filmmakers. Harlin's initial success came with Nightmare on Elm Street IV: The Dream Master which, at the time of its release, was the highest-grossing independent film to date.He next directed the hit sequel Die Hard 2: Die Harder and, in 1993, Harlin produced and directed the Sylvester Stallone blockbuster Cliffhanger, which grossed more than $270,000,000 worldwide, establishing Harlin as a leading action director.The director/producer (under his own company banner, Midnight Sun Pictures) is currently producing Blast from the Past, starring Alicia Silverstone, Brendan Fraser, Sissy Spacek and Christopher Walken, as well as a documentary about photographer Peter Beard. Midnight Sun will also produce the upcoming Formula One, a race-car epic based on the life of driving champion Ayrton Senna, and Primal (working title) for Warner Bros. later next year. Harlin debuted as a producer on the critically acclaimed Rambling Rose, which received Oscar nominations for both Best Actress (Laura Dern) and Best Supporting Actress (Diane Ladd).
