A-ha Quotes

Maybe that's why people in bands respect the fact we haven't spent half our lives trying to come up with Take On Me Part 2. We had our moments in the spotlight but still today we are trying to make a record that will make the band - not milk the band. We made an effort to stay true to whatever musical vision we had at the time. We've never made an effort to stay popular. If you live in America, you'll remember the first album; if you're in the UK, then maybe you'll remember the first four albums; or if you're in Germany, Scandinavia or South America, then maybe you'll remember all eight because we've had a continuous career in those places. It depends what country you live in. Initially, I wrote them as A-ha songs but then I realised it wasn't about that - it was a more personal journey and I recorded them as a solo project. But I started to realise I wasn't being completely fulfilled in the group and suddenly this material began coming out of me that I felt didn't belong in an A-ha situation. It wasn't until A-ha got back together in 2000 that I rediscovered my childhood passion for making three or four-minute pop songs. After A-ha disbanded in 1993, I worked as a visual artist and became involved in writing music for theatre and ballet and film scores - one won the Silver Bear Award at the Berlin Film Festival.
